Our recent study found that global high-definition geomagnetic models (like HDGM, MVHD, etc.) have accuracy performance comparable with In-Field Referencing (IFR) at the great number of locations. However, the average or global error of high-def models is several times higher than IFR one. That is caused by an impact of geomagnetic anomaly areas to the global statistic of the error.
We developed and integrate an algorithm to estimate actual declination accuracy of the high-definition geomagnetic model based on MWD measurements. This novel feature of MWD STD platform allows to significantly improve toolcode in terms of declination accuracy at certain locations without spending resources for IFR.
